-
- Release Notes for CatDV v2.0.0
-
- Thank you for downloading CatDV. This application will function in a save and
- print disabled evaluation mode for 30 days unless you purchase and enter a
- valid registration code. You can register CatDV online at http://www.catdv.com.
- Please note that existing 1.5 users will need to purchase an upgrade at
- http://order.kagi.com/?TL6.
-
- IMPORTANT: You may install and use this software only in accordance with the
- terms of the enclosed software license agreement.
-
- What is CatDV?
- --------------
- CatDV is a cross platform clip logging and cataloging application designed to
- enhance the productivity of video editors using an existing NLE application.
-
- The CatDV Reference Guide is included in PDF format as part of the download.
- The earlier CatDV 1.5 User Manual is also available as a separate download from
- the CatDV download page at http://www.squarebox.co.uk/catdv/download.html, but
- this has not yet been updated with CatDV 2.0 new features. If you obtained CatDV
- from CD-ROM, please check this web site to make sure you have latest version.
- CatDV is updated regularly, with both bug fixes and feature enhancements.
-
- The reference guide is also available in French and (shortly) German.
-
- Windows Base Installation
- -------------------------
- Requirements
-
- Windows 98, NT or 2000
- QuickTime 4.0 or later
- QuickTime for Java
- Java (JRE 1.3.1 recommended)
-
- QuickTime is available for download from http://quicktime.apple.com. You must
- select a *custom* installation to install the "QuickTime for Java" component in
- addition to any other QuickTime components you require.
-
- Java is available from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/download-windows.html.
- The CatDV.exe application launcher should work with any Sun JRE implementation.
- (If you have an unusual Java configuration or another vendor's implementation then
- you may still be able run CatDV using alternative launchers provided in the Windows
- Launch Kit, available as a separate download.)
-
- Unpack the CatDV2.0??.zip ZIP archive (where ??? is the version number of the release
- you are installing) using an application like WinZip or Aladdin Expander. If using
- WinZip make sure that the "Use folder names" option is checked.
-
- When you unzip the archive you should see the following items (some releases
- may omit the documentation and sample files):
-
- Read Me.txt - this file
- CatDV License.txt - license agreement which you agree to comply with
- CatDV Reference Guide.pdf - abbreviated user manual
- CatDV.exe - CatDV application launcher
- Sample.cdv - a sample catalog
- lib - folder containing catdv.jar, jaxp.jar, parser.jar, MRJToolkitStubs.zip,
- and resources.jar
-
- Launch the application by double clicking CatDV.exe. Ensure you can open the sample
- catalog "Sample.cdv" by using the File | Open catalog... command within CatDV.
-
- Macintosh Base Installation (Mac OS 8/9)
- ----------------------------------------
- Requirements
-
- MacOS 9.0 or later
- QuickTime 4.0 or later (5.0.2 recommended)
- MRJ 2.2 or later (2.2.5 recommended)
- QuickTime for Java
-
- A standard MacOS system installation will normally include all the items above,
- except for "QuickTime for Java", which is available if you select a *custom* QuickTime
- install from the MacOS system CDs.
-
- Unpack the CatDV2.0??.sit archive file using Stuffit Expander or a similar
- application (where ??? is the version number of the release you are installing).
- You should end up with a folder containing the following items:
-
- CatDV 2.0?? - the application
- CatDV License Agreement - license agreement you agree to comply with
- CatDV Read Me - this file
- CatDV Reference Guide.pdf - abbreviated user manual
- lib - folder containing swing.jar
- Sample.cdv - a sample catalog
-
- As with the Windows release some installations may omit the documentation and
- sample files.
-
- You should be able to run the CatDV application by double clicking the
- application icon. Verify that you can open the sample catalog "Sample.cdv".
-
- Mac OS X Base Installation
- --------------------------
- CatDV under OSX is still a "preview" release. It runs natively and should have an
- identical feature set to the Classic version of the application but may suffer from
- bugs over the Classic version due to teething problems with what is still very new
- system software.
-
- Unlike the Classic version you do not need to install Java or QuickTime, as all the
- required components are included as standard parts of the Mac OS X system.
-
- Download the CatDV????.tgz file then double click to unpack it with the OSX version
- of StuffIt Expander. Alternatively launch the Terminal application, and determine the path
- of the archive file. You then need to use the 'tar' command to unpack the archive and
- place the CatDV.app directory in your Applications folder. For example, if you downloaded
- the archive to the /tmp directory you might type the following commands:
-
- cd /Applications
- tar zxvf /tmp/CatDV2.0???.tgz
-
- Verify that you see a CatDV icon in your Applications folder and that you can launch
- CatDV by double clicking the icon. For best results, select the Mac OS (Aqua) look and
- feel in the Preferences dialog.
-
- Patch Installation (Mac & Windows)
- ----------------------------------
- To install a patch update you must first have downloaded and installed a full
- application installation as per the instructions above. Once you have installed a
- base release in a CatDV directory on your hard drive, unpack the patch archive
- (catdv????_patch.zip or CatDV????_Patch.sit).
-
- The patch archives typically only contain one or two files that are meant to replace
- the corresponding files in the base installation directory. You should use the
- Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder to move the new files to their correct location.
-
- Under Windows, the files you replace are "lib/catdv.jar" and "lib/resources.jar".
-
- On the Macintosh it is the "CatDV 2.0???" application itself which you replace. (You
- should also copy the "mac.jar" file into the "lib" folder to add support for the
- Macintosh Look & Feel.)
